Public Education & Advocacy

Affordable housing is an incredibly complex issue, one that is influenced constantly by social, political and economic factors. It often faces resistance because there is widespread misunderstanding as to who needs affordable housing, and how such housing will impact communities and neighborhoods. This makes it particularly difficult to implement affordable housing programming. For these reasons, the Commission advocates for more affordable housing by providing information, education and training. Some of our primary focuses are as follows.

  • Ongoing education is provided for Commissioners and decision makers on the trends, issues and best practices impacting affordable housing.
  • Trainings and technical assistance are offered for housing providers to assist them in developing and funding affordable housing projects.
  • Events and speaking engagements are held throughout the year for elected officials, community and business leaders and the general public.
  • Local municipalities may receive assistance with implementing affordable housing goals and policies.
